Room We Love: An On-Trend Kitchen in Concord

Cabinets  
The homeowners were originally leaning toward gray cabinetry, but designer Meredith Beregovski of Georgia Street Design nudged them toward this rich navy, “Black Blue” by Farrow & Ball. “The homeowners wanted something classic but (which) still made a statement,” she says, “but they were adamant that they did not want a black-and-white kitchen. Navy acts as a neutral and can achieve that same bold look without going over the top.”

Brass Finishes  
“When most people hear brass finishes, they think of the old-school, ’80s, shiny brass,” Beregovski says. “These pendants by Visual Comfort and fixtures by Newport Brass are far from that. It’s brushed, so it’s soft and adds an immediate dose of warmth to the room, which is important because it complements the already cool tones of the countertops, backsplash, and cabinetry.”

Backsplash  
In lieu of traditional, sleek, glazed white subway tile, Beregovski opted for a handcrafted, tumbled finish that adds texture and interest to the backsplash and overall look of the room. Since there was no obvious end point for the backsplash, Beregovski continued the white subway tile around the door frame and on the entire adjacent wall, which allowed for a more seamless, modern look to an otherwise traditional kitchen.

Countertops
To complement the navy cabinets, Beregovski and the homeowners wanted a durable quartz stone instead of stain-prone marble, so they “visited every slab yard to find a quartz that was durable, had a lot of movement in it, and looked like a natural stone,” she says. “This piece from Polarstone has a warm caramel color running throughout it, which adds warmth to the space, but also a little interest.”
