The Weekend Ahead: April 16-19

GO CORNHOLING – Charlotte Knights Cornhole Tournament
We can’t think of a way to make the word “cornhole” any funnier than it already is, so we are just going to let it stand on it’s own two feet. Cornhole. CORNHOLE! Let’s all go cornholing! Whoo hoo CORNHOLE! Okay. Moving on. If this collegiate tailgate past time (it’s the one where you throw bean bags through a hole in a board – see photo above – in case your memories of college tailgating are hazy) appeals to you, then you and your team could be the lucky winners of a $300 prize! Registration is $25 per team on the day of the event.
Thursday, 6:30pm at Knights Stadium 2280 Deerfield Dr, Fort Mill.

MANAGE YOUR STRESS – National Stress Awareness Day and One Day Detox at The Spa at Ballantyne
Patronizing self-help gurus have been telling us for years that we should “manage our stress” so as to avoid weight gain, wrinkles, acne and general, total unhappiness. Our usual response is, “Who has the time to actually manage their stress? If we had time, we wouldn’t be stressed. Duh.” Admittedly, the “duh” is a little childish, but seriously, how does one manage stress? How about by attending a day full of helpful mini-seminars on subjects like stress-busting foods, tai chi, DIY massage techniques and more. Still stressed? Then hand over $10 for an intense chair massage. If your life has gone beyond stress and veered into toxic territory, then you can also sign up for Saturday’s “One Day Detox” for $140. This all-day event includes a guided meditation walk, a raw food lecture, a detox drink, and your choice of a detoxing massage or facial.
Stress Seminar – Thursday, 4-8pm. Ballantyne Resort.
One Day Detox – Saturday, 7:30am-12:30pm, Ballantyne Resort. Advance Registration required at 704-248-4141.
GET DRESSED FOR SPRING WITH ISAAC MIZRAHI – Liz Claiborne New York 2009 Fashion Show at Belk’s
Mr. Mizrahi is one of our favorite fashion personalities because he never takes himself too seriously and he knows how to make a garment that actually flatters a realistic proportion of women. That is why we are pumped to see what he has cranked out for the re-launched Liz Claiborne New York’s Spring 2009 collection. See his designs walk the runway, and then buy them for yourself in the Liz Claiborne department at Belk’s. Purchases over $150 will get you a copy of Mizrahi’s book “How to Have Style”. You can also register to win gift baskets, door prizes and $500 Belk’s gift cards.
Saturday, 1pm, Belk’s at SouthPark Mall
SECRETLY CRUSH ON MATT AND ZAC – 17 Again Opens in Theaters
Confession: We heart Matthew Perry. Always have. Loved Fools Rush In. LOVED his stint on the West Wing. Even loved him on the lamentable Studio 60. Flat out love him. Second Confession: we might heart Zac Efron too. We were charmed by him in Hairspray, and while we will publicly never admit to having watched any of the HSM iterations (or learning the coreography. Ahem.) we can see why his character would be infinitely appealing to the 16-year-old girl inside all of us. So, now that we have aired our secret feelings, we shall venture without shame to the movie theater this weekend to take in the twin glories of Matt and Zac in this “Big”-in-reverse flick. Now, we will be holding a bit of a grudge, because in our minds you should have never tried to remake “Big” to begin with, but we will by-pass the premise and instead focus on how cute these two guys are.
