This Weekend in Charlotte: Jazz at the Bechtler, Weezer, Footloose, and Jason Aldean

FRIDAY
JAZZ AT THE BECHTLER: TRIBUTE TO JAZZ PIANO LEGENDS
The Ziad Jazz Quartet tackles a few jazz piano greats, like Ahmad Jamal, George Shearing, and Oscar Peterson. Tunes “Lullaby of Birdland” and “Night Train” will make appearances.
JASON ALDEAN
The country star is a recording and touring machine, with five albums under his cowboy belt. The Burn It Down Tour includes Florida Georgia Line and Tyler Farr.
BE A LION
Queen City writer Roy Sheriff wrote this tale of what happened to three Wizard of Oz characters after the story ended. He’s also written three novels and continues to work across mediums.
SATURDAY
SCHOOL OF ROCK
School of Rock’s show is titled “Rock 101, Roots, Rock, Reggae, Green Day: American Idiot, Best Of Talking Heads, & Rage Against The Machine,” so expect heavy education. Don’t worry, though; the show starts at 4 p.m. No one’s getting to bed too late.
1065 THE END PRESENTS WEENIE ROAST '14
Those who attended the spring Weezer show at the Fillmore may recall the band’s promise to return. Foster the People, Fitz and the Tantrums, Fuel, and Foxy Shazam are just a couple acts who will join them at this 1065 The End event. Local rock act Flagship also made the cut.
COMMON GROUND: PLAZA MIDWOOD MUSIC & ARTS FESTIVAL
This free street festival brings together craft beer, local art, and music from the likes of Holy Ghost Tent Revival and Big Daddy Love. Also, the Plaza Midwood Merchants created a scavenger hunt for this year's event, adding another reason to make it out to this neighborhood on Saturday.
RIVER CITY
This Louisville-set play follows Mary, a girl who discovers a mysterious photo of her father in childhood and the journey that follows. The story is a National New Play Network Rolling World Premiere.
SUNDAY
FOOTLOOSE
The classic ‘80s film saw an update in 2011, reviving the tale of a town where dancing and rock music are not allowed. This stage show is adapted from the original Dean Pitchford screenplay. See Theatre Charlotte’s take with this run.
