Unknown’s 2nd annual Bacon Beer Bash, Legion hosts #InstabeerupCLT, Good Morning breakfast at Good Bottle and tickets now on sale for Duckworth’s Cask Festival

Tickets are now on sale for Duckworth's annual Cask Festival, which will take place March 19

Here’s the latest news on current and upcoming local beer events:

–If you like bacon and beer (related, how can you not?), then Unknown Brewing is the place to be Wednesday. The brewery is hosting its second annual Bacon Beer Bash, as Unknown has brewed seven different bacon-themed styles of beer. Beginning at 4 p.m., you’ll be able to get the following beers individually or in flights:

  • Breakfast of the Gods (a Belgian quad brewed with bacon, maple syrup and waffles)
  • Go Home Wilbur, You’re Drunk (an imperial brown ale aged in bourbon barrels and brewed with bacon and brown sugar)
  • Hog-a-Pena (a cream ale brewed with cream cheese and jalapenos)
  • Just Desserts (a chocolate raspberry stout soaked in bacon)
  • Peter Piper Picked a Peck of Pepper Pigs (a saison brewed with peppered bacon)
  • Southern Soooo Wee Heavy (a scotch ale brewed with RC Cola and candied bacon)
  • That’ll Do Pig (a citrus IPA brewed with bacon)

This event packed out Unknown last year, and I expect the same to happen Wednesday. As a note, there are no tickets being sold, just order in the taproom. MasterBacon food truck will also be on site in case you want any bacon-themed dishes to go along with your beer.

–The ever-popular #InstabeerupCLT is this Thursday at 6 p.m., and for the first time will be held at Legion Brewing in Plaza Midwood. If you’ve never been, #InstabeerupCLT was created to bring people together over good craft beer. It is what you want it to be: networking, way to meet new people or catch up with old friends. These events always draw a great crowd, and Legion should be no different.

–Good Bottle Co.’s latest Good Morning breakfast is Saturday beginning at 9 a.m., and the beers announced on tap so far make up a strong lineup. Good Bottle will be pouring NoDa’s Hop Cakes, Burial’s Bolo Coconut Brown, Wicked Weed’s El Paraiso (an imperial stout brewed with coffee and cocoa nibs) and Sixpoint’s C.R.E.A.M. Ale (a blonde ale brewed with coffee). There will also be donuts from Your Mom’s Donuts and coffee available from Magnolia Coffee.

–Finally, tickets are now on sale for Duckworth’s annual Cask Festival, which this year will be Saturday, March 19 from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. This is the sixth year Duckworth’s has put this on at its Park Road location, and it’s a great event that showcases unique beers from local breweries. Eight breweries are participating this year, with each bringing a rare cask beer that is created solely for this festival. You’ll then get a chance to vote on your favorite to crown the winner of the Battle of the Casks.

The brewery lineup includes Birdsong (2014 Battle of the Casks champion), Founders, Highland, NoDa (2013 Battle of the Casks champion), Olde Hickory, Stone, Wicked Weed and one more brewery that has yet to be announced. The beers will also be announced at a later date.

Tickets are $25, and include a special festival tasting glass and a 6-ounce pour of each beer. They can only be purchased at Duckworth’s Park Road in person or by calling (704) 527-5783.
