We just lost another bank (before we even got it)

GMAC, the folks who lend money to people who want to buy cars, wanted to become a bank so it could get some of that bailout money, but the feds appear to have declined that request. If GMAC had succeeded, it was looking to move its headquarters to Charlotte, where it could take advantage of cheap real estate in the burbs and hire ex-Wachovians looking for work. Also, CEO Al de Molina, who used to be CFO of Bank of America and still lives here, could stop commuting to Detroit and NYC (can't blame the guy). So Charlotte may have lost several hundred banking jobs before it even had them.
