Weekend Ahead: February 6-8
What we think you should be doing this weekend:
CHEER
The Charlotte Bobcats are taking on the Atlanta Hawks tonight at 7 p.m. at Time Warner Cable Arena. Want to know why you should go watch this game? Well, let me tell you. First, the Bobcats could use some extra cheering. Gerald Wallace is still injured, but the Hawks Joe Johnson will be back in the game. Plus, the Bobcats have a five game home winning streak against the Hawks. So it’d be fun to see that happen again. Still not convinced? Time Warner Cable Arena is awfully close to uptown and the EpiCentre (which just keeps getting bigger and more fun) so win or lose, you’re going to have fun post game. www.timewarnercablearena.com
DRUM
DrumForCures is presenting the “Not-So-Silent Auction” tonight at 6 p.m. benefitting Levine Children’s Hospital (And donations to the hospital will be matched by Levine. How great is that?). Munch on hors d’oeuvres and enjoy the open bar while you check out more than 100 auction items—including Grateful Dead tickets and autographed Lance Armstrong memorabilia. Plus, the Brubeck Brothers Quartet, Jim Donovan of Rusted Root, and others will be performing. The event, which will be held in Spirit Square’s McGlohon Theater, is $75 per person or $125 per couple. www.drumstrong.org
ABSOLUT CHARLOTTE
Like mangos? Like vodka? Yeah, us too. Well, tonight, we’re all in luck. Absolut Vodka is bringing their newest flavor to North Carolina with a party at The Sunset Club. The food and drinks are all mango-inspired… and, obviously, there’s some vodka-inspired stuff there as well. The party starts at 10 p.m. Call the club at 704-373-9900 for more info.
HE’S NOT?
Maybe it’s because I’m a girl. And I’m single. And I’m in my 20’s. But wow, I have heard a lot of hype about He’s Just Not That Into You coming out this weekend. Now, I’ve read the book and frankly, I’m not sure I need to see the movie. Doesn’t the title kind of accomplish the point? On the other hand I know for a fact I will be watching this movie. (See first three sentences of this entry for reasons why.) Plus, I love Rachel, I mean Jennifer Aniston, enough that I will see just about any movie she makes. (We’re talking The Good Girl and Rock Star here. It’s embarassing.) Check fandango.com for local show times and tickets.
