Weekend Ahead: March 13-15
JOIN THE HORDES
Apparently, the annual St. Patrick’s Day Pub Crawl here in Charlotte has gotten so out of control, that it is going to be featured on a Travel Channel special about “Extreme Nightlife”. Normally we would be all in favor of our Queen City getting some kudos on the Travel Channel, but somehow we suspect that dear ol’ Char isn’t going to be captured looking her very best when the premise of the evening involves drinking as much as you can in multiple locations. Nevertheless, if you’d like to be a part of history, registration starts at Dixie’s Tavern at 1 p.m., and then your night of 19 bars can begin. Over 4,000 “Irish for a Day” revelers are expected to be partaking in the madness, so if this crawl isn’t on your to-do list, you may want to steer clear of Uptown… unless of course you want to be pinched by a buzzed guy in a Leprechaun suit because you are not wearing green.
Saturday March 14, Starting at 301 E. Seventh St. $25 in advance, $30 day of. www.bandtastic.com or www.rockhouseevents.com
RAISE THE ROOF
Man, just how big is EpiCentre? There’s actually a rooftop venue and it is a fantastic place to catch a view of Uptown, which you can do while celebrating St. Patty’s day along with Irish bagpipe players, Irish dancers, and several live bands at the first ever Green Party. Actually, this might be a good safe place from which to observe the 4,000 crawlers from the event above.
Saturday March 14, 4 p.m. 210 E. Trade St. Free admission. www.pavilionatepicentre.com
PICK A TEAM
Checkers, Bobcats or Charlotte Speed?
You can take your pick of sports to support this weekend. The Bobcats take on the Houston Rockets on Friday, the Checkers battle it out with the Gwinnett Gladiators on Saturday and the South Carolina Stingrays on Sunday, and Charlotte’s very own indoor football team (Yes! We have one! And no, it’s not the same as the “Rage” which we had in the late 80’s. RAGE IN THE GAGE! Anyone? No? Just me? My family had season tickets. This was before the Panthers game along, so I think we were all a little desperate for some football in the Queen City.), Charlotte Speed, will be going head to head with the Columbus Lions at their new home in the Bojangles Arena.

RENT ONE FOR ANNE
Rachel Getting Married on DVD
Our girl Anne Hathaway didn’t take home a statue for her Oscar nominated role in this indie about family life, drug addiction and what happens when you throw them all together with the drama of a wedding, but she did take home our award for best dressed at the Oscar ceremony, so that is something, right Annie? We never saw her movie while it was in theaters, but we plan to rent it now in support of our girl, with the hopes that once she knows we support her, she will do herself a favor and eat a nice big plate of lasagna. (Chica is skinny!)
