A Grand Entrance with Clark Hall Doors

GARY KESLING and his wife were looking for a new city to call home. They visited Raleigh and weren’t impressed, but when they came to Charlotte in 2008 from Washington, D.C., they knew they’d found where they wanted to live with their two sons. After 13 years as a stay-at-home dad, Gary hoped to start a business here. The family moved into a house near Providence Country Club. A search for a new front door led Gary to Clark Hall Doors, and he ended up buying much more than that. A year later, he and his wife bought the business. “I came and looked at the doors, and just fell in love with the doors,” Kesling says. Each door is custom-made with wood or iron, such as the one pictured in south Charlotte. The ironwork is done by an exclusive partner in Monterrey, Mexico. Finished products are shipped as far as Antigua—the doors are hurricane resistant and can come with a coastal finish—though many stay in the south Charlotte area.
Iron doors start at $5,500 for a single door; $9,500 for a double door. Cost includes installation. Clark Hall Doors, 3034 Griffith St., 704-987-0777
