Nicole Williams' son, Ryan, was her initial inspiration for her stylish baby gear company, buti-bag.
Nicole Williams has always had an entrepreneurial streak, but she lacked a business plan. So the strong-willed sales rep settled into a corporate job and waited for inspiration to strike.
It came shortly after Williams, thirty-nine, gave birth to her son Ryan, now four, when the Myers Park mom found that diaper bags cramped her style.
"I couldn't find an option that wasn't ugly, black nylon," she says.
No product? No problem. Williams designed her own. The streamlined result looked like a handbag but unrolled to reveal a neat row of organizational compartments, pockets, and flaps. And the buti-bag company was born.
Now Williams makes a living hawking her designs. For her, it sure beats the boardroom.

Buti-bag founder Nicole Williams describes some of her favorites from the line:
The Myers Park Chocolate, Aqua, and Spa-green Bundle, $59.99
"The Bundle is a travel catch-all for everything from toiletries to diapers. Clip it onto any bag for carrying and hang from a doorknob or hook for easy access. Women of all ages love the look and the versatility of our bundles."
The Pod, $8.50
"The pod is a flexible, center-zip bag which actually keeps all kinds of wipes moist for weeks. As a mom, one of the most frustrating things is to have dried-out wipes in a mess emergency."
The big dot chocolate pink and dino-lime! binkmeisters, $8
"The binkmeister is definitely our hottest baby accessory item. Customers and retailers say that the patterns and packaging make them irresistible, and the price is something everyone can afford. A little bit of couture for a little bitty price."
