Former Block & Grinder Chef Hired at Lumiere
Chef Ben Philpott will host a meet and greet dinner this week

Chef Ben Philpott has taken over as chef at Lumiere, the restaurant announced in an email on Monday. The Myers Park restaurant, along with South End gastropub The Liberty, is owned by chef Tom Condron and Matthew Pera. Lumiere serves classic French dishes, and earned the No. 10 ranking on our Best Restaurants list earlier this year. Philpott is a familiar name in the culinary scene here; he was the longtime executive chef at Block & Grinder and is known for his commitment to using local ingredients. He is also very active with the Piedmont Culinary Guild, a nonprofit that supports farmers and chefs in the area. Block & Grinder closed both its original location in Cotswold and a new, larger restaurant near Lake Norman in April 2017.
To introduce their new chef, Philpott will serve a special tasting menu on Wednesday for $40, which includes a glass of champagne. See the menu below and make your reservation on Open Table.
