Honeymoon hotspot: Marco Island

Planning a summer honeymoon? Look no further.
Hilton Marco Island

As if getting married isn’t fabulous enough, you’re entitled to a weeklong vacation after exchanging vows!

This week, we’re looking at luxurious Marco Island, situated just 20 miles south of Naples. Marco Island is the largest of Florida’s Ten Thousand Islands and offers sandy white beaches, unspoiled parks and a tropical climate perfect for beach lovers. Whether you want to spend your days lying on the beach or staying active by hiking, canoeing or fishing, Marco Island has it all. Just remember, in the summertime temperatures average around 90 degrees so if you like it hot, this place is for you.

Where to stay: Hilton Marco Island. The AAA 4-Diamond 11-story resort features 298 guest rooms, 22 one-bedroom suites and four rooftop penthouses. Spend an afternoon relaxing at the 10,000-square-foot spa, playing tennis or sunbathing by the pool. Room rates begin at $229/night.

Where to eat: DaVinci’s of Marco. Italian isn’t normally what comes to mind when you think of Florida cuisine, but DaVinci’s does it right. The Carvelli family perfects the cuisine of their homeland with fresh pizza and homemade pasta. The fabulous courtyard dining area is just an added bonus to the food.

What to do: You can’t visit Marco Island and not tour the Everglades. Grab your new husband and sign up for an “Everglades safari” where an experienced captain will guide you deep into the sawgrass and cattails. Keep an eye out for crocodiles, herons, snakes and even panthers.

When to go: Spring in Marco Island is a great time for visitors, as temperatures are mild and tourists haven’t flooded the island just yet. Summer gets a little more crowded (and a lot hotter) but can be a fabulous time for sunbathing. If you plan on venturing into the Everglades, make sure to pack a hat, sunscreen and bug spray.
