Lulu

Lulu
Plaza Midwood denizens love them some Lulu, but the rest of the city has also discovered this rollicking good time of a restaurant. The ebullient Marc Jacksina has fun with his food—or at least with what he calls the dishes on the menu—and he has settled into a groove in the kitchen. People go crazy over the duck fat fries, but we love the Duck Duck Jus: crisp duck breast over sweet potato risotto topped with Eastern N.C.-style pulled duck and red onion marmalade.
Lulu on the Cheap
Swing by Lulu Monday through Thursday 5 to 6:30 p.m. and you can feast on what Jacksina says is the best value on the menu. The four-course, prix fixe menu boasts a $19.11 per person price tag and features smaller portions of some of Lulu's signature eats such as the Movie Star appetizer—ginger-infused calamari -- and steak and frites. But if you can't get there by 6:30, make a point to stop in on Wednesdays, when you'll receive a free dessert with the purchase of a large entrée or come on Tuesday evenings, when all bottles of wine are half off.
