Making the most of your wedding website

Yes, it’s for more than just proposal pictures.

Thanks to 21st-century technology, guests are no longer reliant solely on an invitation and word-of-mouth to gather all the important wedding day details. Wedding websites are a great way to make sure guests have all the information they need, and are fully prepared for your wedding weekend.

Several websites, such as The Knot, Wedding Wire, and Minted offer customizable wedding sites for free.

Building a website? Here’s what you need to include:

The location of events – And not just the location, but address, website, phone number and easy to follow directions.

Attire – Is your wedding a black-tie event or a more casual, outdoor affair? Let guests know in advance so everyone feels comfortable and prepared.

Your story – Websites are a great place to let distant relatives and long-lost friends know how you met and fell in love. Keep it short and sweet (a paragraph or less), and make sure to have someone with a good editing eye look over it before it’s published.

What to do – Especially for out of town guests, including your favorite bars, restaurants, and places to shop will be helpful for people looking for something to do leading up to the wedding.

Hotel arrangements – Don’t forget to make room blocks at one or two hotels for guests who might be traveling (or partying all night long!). Include which hotels are blocked, the price, website, and any promotion code for special discounts.
