Photos: On The Menu at Ramen Soul

Tim and Melanie Groody, owners of Fork! in Cornelius, opened a ramen restaurant last week called Ramen Soul. It's a place where the two can have a little fun, both in the kitchen and out—the dining room has a serious of famous rock albums reimagined with ramen puns. Photographer Peter Taylor and editors Kristen Wile and Adam Rhew drove up to the Mooresville spot for lunch last week. Here's a sample of the menu, in photographs.

The coconut tuna poke was a favorite (aside from Peter, who doesn't eat fish, or… many things). The flavors were subtle but finished with a burst of coconut on the palate. The crunchy chips are only slightly greasy, making for a great textural contrast against the raw tuna.

The pork belly steamed bun had all the necessary parts: crispy pork belly slathered in a tasty sauce (in this case, sweet-and-sour sauce), a soft bun, and crunchy pickled carrots and onions.

The duck leg steamed buns come with the same fixin's, but a different protein. Prepare to get sticky and love it.

This dish is a must-order: the spicy lamb gyoza.

The restaurant's name is Ramen Soul, so it's no surprise they have seven varities of the Japanese noodle soup on the menu. Pictured is the tonkotsu, with pork broth, smoked pork belly, woodear mushrooms, a marinated egg, black garlic oil, nori, and scallions.

We left fat and happy.
