Press
Picture a miniature Dean & DeLuca paired with a hip wine bar. That's Press, Pierre Bader's new hot spot on the ground floor of David Furman's Trademark condo tower. (Bader's other places include Sonoma and Town.) By day, busy businesspeople drop by for a quick smoked turkey and Brie panini (delicious with orange fig marmalade) or a roast beef and Jarlsberg sandwich. At night, the menu shifts to a more typical wine bar menu, plus well-edited sushi selections. And the place fills up with pretty, young uptown-ites. It makes for an enviable urban energy.
Wine is the dominant motif. Wines are retail price, whether you're drinking in or taking out. With Bader at the controls, the wine selection is guaranteed to be accessible, eclectic, and well priced (as are the microbrew offerings).
Large windows bring the outside in; granite-topped tables add elegance while rattan chairs dress it down. Press is meant to be an amenity for the urban dwellers of the twenty-eight-story Trademark. Memo to Trademark residents: you're going to have to share.
