The Dish
News, notes, and gossip about the restaurant scene
Bader Opens Press
Pierre Bader's latest work is almost ready for public consumption. He partnered with developer David Furman on an upscale wine bar for the ground floor of Furman's uptown condo tower Trademark. Called Press Wine and Food, it will be open for breakfast, lunch, and dinner.
One Daddy Left
The restaurant gods giveth, and they taketh away. Stefan Latorre's Daddy's American Grill, located at the cursed corner of Fifth and Church and a BOB winner last year for its burgers, has closed. Red Sox fans will miss the Fenway Park re-creation on the inside, and we'll miss the genius topping of a fried pickle on top of a big hunk of ground beef.
NY Pizza Heads South
Hawthorne's New York Pizza and Bar, long an Elizabeth fave (and more recently in Highland Creek), is branching out and heading south. The newest location is open in Olde Towne Village shopping center at Quail Hollow and Carmel roads.
Tailgating Season
Beginning April 26, South End will once again have its own farmers market. The Charlotte Tailgate Farmers Market is moving from its original home in Plaza Midwood. Look for local produce, dairy, meat, flowers, and more at West Park Avenue and Camden Road. The first market will kick off the annual Art & Soul festival, which fills South End's streets with art, music, and food.
