What To Do In Charlotte In August
The best things to do and see this month

More than any other month, August—sweltering, slather-on-the-sunscreen-and-DEET August—is the season for outdoor events, especially ones that involve music and sports. It’s a full calendar and a heaping plate of opportunities for rubbing elbows with your fellow Charlotteans in the stands—provided you hydrate and temper your annoyance at the heat and crowds.
Louis C.K.: Ridiculous
Saturday, Aug. 2, Ovens Auditorium
The polarizing comic’s second act continues with a stop along a tour that began in March, following the success of his livestreamed 2023 Madison Square Garden concert, Back to the Garden.
Neil Young and the Chrome Hearts
Friday, Aug. 8, PNC Music Pavilion
Neil—at 80!—slapped together a new touring band last year after an unspecified illness scuttled a planned string of dates with his traditional and much-beloved band, Crazy Horse. It’s an intriguing combo, though: Muscle Shoals Rhythm Section veteran Spooner Oldham on organ, guitarist Micah Nelson, and the rhythm section from Promise of the Real—Corey McCormick on bass and Anthony LoGerfo on drums. Fans won’t have many more chances.
d4vd
Sunday, Aug. 17, The Fillmore
Good luck trying to categorize this Houston-based singer-songwriter’s music. (His name’s tricky enough—spelling aside, it’s pronounced “David,” as in David Anthony Burke.) His work spans media and genres from indie rock to R&B, and he’s still just 20.
The Red Clay Strays
Friday, Aug. 22, Skyla Credit Union Amphitheatre
The Mobile, Alabama, country-rock band—can we get a “hell, yeah” for the Gulf Coast?—went viral with their song “Wondering Why” in 2022, and the band’s star has risen ever since.
Eladio Carrión
Wednesday, Aug. 27, Skyla Credit Union Amphitheatre.
The Kansas-born, Puerto Rico-descended master of Latin trap and reggaeton kicks off the American leg of his multinational DON KBRN World Tour with a stop at the AvidXchange Music Factory. Prepare for many kinds of heat.
