Spring Cleaning

The Carolina Panthers have a lot of work to do this offseason. Here's where they should start.

Aggressively pursue free agents. Relying solely on the NFL Draft won’t get the job done. Start at quarterback. We don’t know how Jake Delhomme will bounce back from Tommy John (elbow) surgery. Sure, baseball players who’ve had the surgery usually recover. But they don’t have 300-pound lineman pulling on them. Go after either Daunte Culpepper (unrestricted, Oakland Raiders) or Derek Anderson (restricted, Cleveland Browns). The Raiders are starting JaMarcus Russell, so don’t expect Culpepper to stick around. Anderson had a great season, but the Browns probably won’t let Brady Quinn, whom they gave up their 2008 first-round draft pick to get, sit the bench another year.
