The Sharon at SouthPark
SouthPark area neighborhoods are celebrating the new Anne O. Moffat Park, a half-acre natural space at the corner of Sharon Road and Hazelton Drive that serves as a peaceful transition between the residential areas of SouthPark and the bustling business, retail and restaurant destinations that draw visitors to the friendly, south Charlotte neighborhood.
The lush green space is a gateway to the vibrant campus of The Sharon at SouthPark the Continuing Care Retirement Community (CCRC) that developed, owns and maintains the park. After significant neighborhood input, The Sharon at SouthPark built and landscaped this new space. “Our objective was to engage the community as we promote an active, healthy lifestyle,” says Angela Rigsbee, president and CEO of The Sharon at SouthPark.
The park is dedicated in the name of Rigsbee’s predecessor, Anne O. Moffat, who was president and CEO ofThe Sharon at SouthPark for 18 years. A granite marker at the entrance to the space proclaims that Moffat’s “steadfast leadership and vision helped to enrich the lives of those we serve providing a nurturing environment that fosters joy, purpose and well being.” The park was made possible through a generous donation from the families of Averill and Henry Harkey
Besides thoughtful landscaping, restful benches and a soothing fountain, the park will soon include a mural created by a local artist to encourage public engagement and draw attention to the park as a gathering place. “The mural will be a true testament to community collaboration,” says Rigsbee, referring to the fact that the SouthPark Association of Neighborhoods (SPAN) secured grant funding for the art, which will be installed later this year.
