Millstone Bake House

In 2010, after trying out several other local farmers’ markets, chef and baker Sara Hord began hauling her European-style breads to the Davidson Farmers’ Market from Millstone Meadows, a 35-acre farm in Morganton that she owns with her husband, Mark. Customers waited in long lines for a chance to buy Hord’s rustic boules and exquisite pastries. In April, Hord opened Millstone Bake House and Provisions on Main Street in Davidson, just steps from the market. The bake house is as much restaurant as it is bakeshop: Here you can sip a latte al fresco with a freshly made biscuit during the day or grab a glass of wine and locavore-inspired small plates at night.
