Notable November Events

Make plans to attend this month's happenings

When November hits, the calendar fills up quickly. We'll be taking a closer look at several of these events as the dates get closer, but make a note of them now.

1. Mecklenburg County Cooperative Extension continues its popular Sustainable Living Series next week with holiday-themed classes. On Tuesday, Nov. 11, the Green Gifts class is a family workshop that invites children to attend with an adult while school is out for Veterans Day. The class involves turning sustainable items into holiday gifts. Then on Wednesday, Nov. 12, Mecklenburg Extension Master Gardeners provide ideas for using items from your yard and garden for decoration during the Bringing Nature Inside for the Holidays class. To register, click here.

2. Also on Wednesday, Nov. 12, the Cabarrus Arts Council plays host to Collectors Circle. The event, which takes place at The Galleries in downtown Concord, includes artists Allison McGowan and Robert Alvin Crum talking about their work and demonstrating their techniques. Click here to visit the council's website and learn more.

3. An annual favorite, the Southern Christmas Show returns to the Park Expo and Conference Center for its 47th year Nov. 13 through Nov. 23. This year's theme is All Aboard for Christmas, and the show will include a train-themed entrance and train artifacts from the N.C. Transportation Museum. If you're looking for decoration inspiration, Christmas Tree Lane has a dozen Fraser firs decked out by designers, and taking pictures is encouraged. Or if your mission is checking off names on your shopping list, the show offers jewelry, crafts, and sweets for gift-giving. For more details, click here

4. Also bring your shopping list to the third-annual Vintage Charlotte Winter Market on Nov. 15. The market takes over the Fillmore with more than 60 local and regional vendors specializing in vintage, antique, and handmade wares. The single-day, pop-up market attracts nearly 2,500 customers. Admission is free, but early birds can pay $5 and come in an hour before the crowds. Click here for more about Vintage Charlotte.

5. For a relaxing, elegant holiday experience, visit Daniel Stowe Botanical Garden for Holidays at the Garden, which begins Friday, Nov. 21. Many of the displays are nature inspired, including the longtime favorite Orchid Tree. Children can play in the recently opened Lost Hollow children's garden (read more from our earlier post), and adults can enjoy socializing around the fire pit. The event continues until Dec. 31.
