Sunset Grille (2400 Park Rd., 704-335-8444) recently opened in the former Las Ramblas space offering grill food — burgers, pizzas, wings — and more upscale dishes including crab cakes and pork chops. Brian Dominick’s new twenty-four-hour Midnight Diner in South End serves diner dishes including chicken dinners and breakfast favorites. Bubble Tease (9211 N. Tryon St., 980-939-1565) recently opened in the University area; it sells Taiwanese-inspired teas, served hot or cold, with tapioca pearls for added flavor.
New to Town
Wet Willies (900 Seaboard St., 704-716-5650), the Southern daiquiri bar known for its fruity frozen drinks, is the newest addition to NC Music Factory. Looking to satisfy your sweet tooth? Rocky Mountain Chocolate (SouthPark) recently opened another local branch at SouthPark mall, serving its famous fudge, candied apples, and other treats. And in Birkdale Village, gourmet popcorn has made a comeback. The new Kernel T’s Korn Krib (16835 Birkdale Commons Pkwy., 704-895-3383) offers handcrafted popcorn made fresh daily.
Making the Move
Uptown steak and seafood restaurant LaVecchia’s (225 E. Sixth St., 704-370-6776) has announced it is moving to Hearst Tower in August. Fans of the restaurant can continue to expect the same traditional dishes and fresh seafood that have made it a popular destination.
