Blues, BBQ, & Boogie
We have good news, bad news, and bizarre news.
The good news is that Charlotte’s favorite excuse for an afternoon of pork and pints, Blues, Brews, and BBQ, is scheduled to tap the kegs and light the grills again this year at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, September 10th. The guzzling will continue through late Sunday night, with live music, beer, and close to 80 teams participating in fierce BBQ competitions for titles like Best Whole Hog and Best Pork Shoulder.
The bad news is that, in what is surely a sign of the apocalypse, the event has been renamed Time Warner Cable Blues & BBQ. Even beer is no longer sacred.
The bizarre end note to all this is that while, no, you can’t fight The Cable Man, you can dance with him. While not a "blues" group in the textbook sense, the headlining band for the event is Big Bad Voodoo Daddy, a modern day big band known for its swingin’, jivin’ tunes. Because nothing puts us in the mood to jitterbug more than roasted pork shoulder and a couple of pilsners.
Of course, food and beer doesn’t put us in the mood to gripe, either. So, while we’re extremely wary of getting BBQ sauce on our zoot suits, we’ll be happy to dust them off just this once.
