United Family Services – shelter for battered women

Domestic Violence services as a whole was cut by 35%, a $127,535 cut in United Way Funds.

The Shelter for Battered Women Needs list:

 

Financial donations to help supplement shelter overflow to house women and children in alternate safe location.
Diapers (size 1-5)
Grocery store gift cards
New bathroom towels
New twin bed sheets and blankets
 
Volunteer needs:
Volunteers are needed as court advocates, rape crisis companions, general office support, child care providers (four hour minimum), and groups to bring dinner to residents at The Shelter for Battered Women.
 
Examples of how cash donations can help our programs:
$10 would buy a hot dinner for a mother and her two children.
$40 one hour of children counseling
$50 would buy a one month round-trip bus pass for a Shelter resident to get to and from work.
$250 pays for a two-night stay at The Shelter for Battered Women for a woman and her children and covers the cost of services such as shelter, food, clothing, counseling, job training, and domestic violence support groups.
