Charlotte Wine & Food Weekend Kicks Off; Most Tickets Gone but If You Still Want In…

Charlotte Wine & Food Weekend is a big deal. Not only is it more than just a weekend—it’s five days, today through Sunday (April 18-22)—but it’s also one of the most anticipated culinary-meets-nightlife series in the city. CWFW takes place every other year, which adds to the anticipation, and the excitement is evident by the fact that almost half of the events are sold out. While there are nearly a dozen events in all, for the remaining events that aren’t listed as being sold out on the website, registration has unfortunately closed.

I called the CWFW office around noon today to inquire about whether tickets to any of the events could be purchased at the door. The representative I spoke to said the only event you’d have a good chance of paying for at the door is the Vintner Tasting on Saturday, 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., at Founders Hall.

If you’re plugged into the local wine scene, you probably purchased your tickets long ago. Events run the gamut, including tastings (many of them at The Ritz-Carlton), dinners, a gala, and a Sunday brunch to close out the festivities. Tickets were sold individually to each event, ranging from $40 to $375 per. Proceeds will benefit four local charities: Charlotte Community Health Clinic, Council For Children’s Rights, Pat’s Place Child Advocacy Center, and Second Harvest Food Bank. If you want to see if you can pull any strings to buy a last-minute ticket, I suggest you call 704-338-9463 (WINE).

There’s an after-party Thursday night, 9:30 p.m. to midnight, at Pewter Rose Bistro, 1820 South Blvd., for which there’s no charge to attend. Perhaps you could drop in and see if you can score a ticket to a weekend event. You’d be surprised how far a little elbow-rubbing will get you (and how sometimes people will have extra tickets because the company they work for is a sponsor).
