A former meteorologist launches a new green career

Terri Bennett was at the top of her game: she was a popular TV weather forecaster in Charlotte for seventeen years and had won two Midsouth Regional Emmys and multiple Best Weather Forecaster in the Carolinas awards. But when that job ended in 2007 she took on something new.

Bennett coupled her love of teaching, meteorology, and the environment with her Web site, The site features local weather forecasts, tips on leaving a smaller eco footprint, and "Do Your Part" environmentally friendly merchandise.

The forty-three-year-old Bennett is a contracted CMS provider of after-school programs, and she has launched the nonprofit Weather Education Center to help teachers improve their Earth sciences knowledge. "The planet doesn't belong to us," Bennett says. "We belong to it."
