‘Dear Evan Hansen’ Coming to Charlotte

YET ANOTHER BROADWAY SMASH is coming to Charlotte. Dear Evan Hansen, which nabbed six Tony Awards earlier this year, has a national tour that’s headed to the Belk Theater stage during the 2018-2019 PNC Broadway Lights season. Blumenthal has confirmed that the show will be in Charlotte in the winter of 2019, in particular. Show producer Stacey Mindich and Blumenthal Performing Arts announced the Charlotte date today. Tom Gabbard, president/CEO of Blumenthal, says he’s been asked daily whether the show is coming to town.
Check out our recent interview with Gabbard here, who told us, “Broadway is in a golden era of creating lots of great shows. At Blumenthal, we have a history of any musical that has won a Tony Award for 'Best Musical' coming to our stage.” This seems to be true for this year, as well, as Dear Evan Hansen won that coveted award this past summer.
The group offered this description of the show: “A letter that was never meant to be seen, a lie that was never meant to be told, a life he never dreamed he could have. Evan Hansen is about to get the one thing he’s always wanted: a chance to finally fit in.” The show's book was written by Steven Levenson, with a score by Benj Pasek and Justin Paul. Michael Greif served as director of the Broadway incarnation.
