Wedding-and-event planner Ivy Robinson tackles her once-dated den

Ivy employed her less-is-more philosophy when she purchased simple round mirrors in various sizes from Target to flank the wall beside the sofa and provide extra light in the space. “I love mixing inexpensive things with pricier options to keep a budget in check,” says Ivy.

Wedding-and-event planner Ivy Robinson’s den was awash with bold pinks and golds, with too many prints and patterns that fought each other. After seven years, she and her husband, Scott, needed a change. “We wanted a modern, chic, uptown feel to it,” she says of the 400-square-foot space. With the help of decorator Jay Johnstone, the den now boasts a new color palette—a vibrant peacock blue accented with touches of silver and black—which reflects their fun-loving yet sophisticated personalities. To accessorize, Ivy sifted through the collection of goods she often uses for events, which resulted in the addition of colorful vases and antique silver cups and bowls. The bonus: the project was done on a minimal budget. “That’s probably one of the best parts about this entire redesign,” says Ivy.
