Charlotte Home + Garden: Favorite color to wear?
Anne Buresh: With my busy schedule, I have to gravitate towards what is easy. For me, that’s classic black. I like to add interest with texture from fabrics and accessories—silks, cashmere, and gold metallics are my current favorites. Recently, I read that black is “out.” However, just returning from a trip to NYC, it was evident that it is still very much a go-to for women’s fashion!
CHG: Favorite color to design with?
AB: I gravitate toward warm, soft hues to create a classically chic slate to build from, and add punches of color to, which I select based on my client’s personality and preference. My favorites are Farrow and Ball’s Pointing and Benjamin Moore’s Dove White. They are not cold or sterile in any way—just perfectly stylish and balanced.
CHG: When did you know you wanted to be an interior designer?
AB: For as long as I can remember, I have always been aware of my environment. Growing up, I spent countless hours creating and rearranging my bedroom to have a calm, comfortable feeling and was always enthusiastically leading the charge on holiday decorating throughout the year. My mother was very patient! However, one of my absolute favorite pastimes and favorite memories was playing with my grandmother’s fabric books in her historic home in Halifax, North Carolina.
Later, when we renovated our 1930s home in Richmond, Virginia, and our home here in Foxcroft, I knew I was hooked. A neighbor asked me to design and renovate her home and after that, my business took off and I never looked back!
CHG: Favorite recent design trend?
AB: Whether used in light fixtures, vases, or floor tiles, geometrics and optical illusions are huge right now. I love to nod to trends through chic accessories in my designs. Accessorizing the space is one of the key elements to pulling the room together. Modern, stylish shapes add fresh finishing touches and artistic elements that create the wow factor in a space.
CHG: Favorite national interior designer?
AB: Hands down, Suzanne Kasler. Her designs are the perfect combination of classically inspired rooms, stunning color, welcoming spaces and striking structural elements. I am fortunate to have the opportunity to talk with Suzanne in her beautiful showroom in High Point each market. She is so friendly and always generous with her time. It’s such a treat to see her twice a year.
CHG: Best career advice?
AB: ”Let your passion lead your purpose.” —Oprah Winfrey
CHG: Best place to find inspiration?
AB: Travel, fashion, design blogs, nature, and print are some of my favorites.
CHG: Three words that describe when a client sees their completed home?
AB: You nailed it!!!
