Going Global
Molly Barker tackles the world

Molly Barker tackles the world
It started in 1996 with thirteen girls and now includes more than 50,000 young women in more than 150 cities across North America. Today Molly Barker's Charlotte-based Girls on the Run International is going global with its mission to help preteens develop self-respect and healthy lifestyles through running programs, including the second-largest 5K series in the country.
"We see this as having the potential to be huge," Barker, forty-eight, says of the nonprofit, which has drawn interest from more than forty countries. The next step: Barker's group is making its first international move, into Canada. "We are at an inflection point," says Barker, "moving from providing a program to mobilizing a movement."
