Leslie Odom, Jr., the actor-singer who originated the role of Hamilton’s Aaron Burr on Broadway, will perform in Charlotte on Nov. 14. The program, titled “Celebrating Big Dreams,” is the kickoff event for Blumenthal Performing Arts’ 25th season. Hamilton acts as bookends for this season, as it ends with a run of the national tour of the show in 2018.

Odom is joined by a live orchestra, and he'll perform songs from his Broadway career and his own, jazz-tinged tunes. Special guests are also planned for the night, along with a video that highlights the campaign that erected the center and memories from Blumenthal's first couple decades. “We’re telling the story of the big dreams behind building a performance art center, the big dreams of the people who’ve spent the past 25 years here, and the big dreams of the future,” Tom Gabbard, president of Blumenthal, told us in a recent interview. “It gives us a chance to celebrate what’s been achieved, but also, looking forward to the next 25 years.”

Tickets start at $25 for the Belk Theater event and will be on sale Monday, Aug. 7. Get more info on the concert here.

More than 90 percent of current PNC Broadway Lights season ticket holders renewed their subscriptions ahead of this upcoming season, securing a Hamilton spot. More than 5,000 new subscribers joined them, and now season tickets are sold out. This pushed the creation of the Encore series, which you can read about here.

Hamilton runs at Belk Theater Oct. 10, 2018-Nov. 4, 2018. Read our original announcement of it coming to Charlotte here.
