Haute Suits

Kirsti Grinna was inspired by modern painters like Andy Warhol for the creation of her latest swim suit line. Suits from top to bottom: Espo, Agustus John, and Invador.

Kirsti Grinna was thirteen when her swimsuit line, KGB (Kirsti Grinna Bikinis), debuted at the Swimwear Association of Florida’s annual SwimShow. The style-savvy teen sent models parading down the runway in bikinis, fur hats, and Uggs. Months later, she was thrilled to see one of her designs in Sports Illustrated’s swimsuit issue. The mag’s stylists took a cue from Grinna and accessorized with a Russian cap and furry boots.

Six years later, she’s still making a splash with KGB and Kirsti Grinna Collection — a second, more upscale line of swimwear. “This season I was inspired by art,” says the designer, now nineteen. The latest KGC maillots pay homage to the work of modern painters, such as Andy Warhol, while KGB references bold graffiti. Shop both lines at La Plage (16836 Birkdale Commons Pkwy., 704-655- 2999), Grinna’s family-owned swimsuit boutique.
