Honeymoon Hotspot: Monterey, California

It’s Part III of our series on honeymoons! Searching for the perfect destination? Look no further.

Planning my parents 25th anniversary trip to Monterey and Napa Valley was torcher. Finding the best hotels, choosing from a never-ending assortment of renowned restaurants all while drooling over pictures that captured the infinite beauty of Pacific Coast fishing towns. Why wouldn’t they take me with them?

There’s a reason Monterey caught their eye when planning an anniversary trip. It’s continually ranked as one of the most romantic destinations in the U.S. With a temperate climate year-round, quaint streets and shops, world-class cuisine and luxurious inns and spas, it’s the perfect destination for honeymooners in search of a little bit of everything. Take to the streets and go shopping, enjoy a drive up the scenic coastline, or cozy up in the room after a day at the spa – whatever your pleasure!

Where to stay: Post Ranch Inn
Hanging on the cliffs of Big Sur, California is the luxurious, 5-star Post Ranch Inn, featuring dramatic views of the coastline in a setting that beckons relaxation. The Inn boasts 40 guest rooms with dramatic mountain and ocean views, wood-burning fireplaces, an indoor spa tub, private deck and more. Relax by the pool, enjoy a massage or get fit at the resort’s daily yoga classes. A short drive from Carmel and Monterey, you and your new hubby will have unlimited ways to pass the days.z

Where to eat: La Bicyclette
We’re obsessing over this quaint little bistro that’ll have you thinking you’re traveling across Europe. La Bicyclette features thin-crust pizzas made with ingredients grown fresh and locally. How delicious does their Butternut Squash Pizza sound, featuring sage, gruyere, speck ham and a butternut squash puree? My mouth is watering already!  You’re sure to be stuffed after dinner, but don’t leave without trying the Strawberry Panna Cotta!

What to do: Whale watching
The California coast is one of the only places in the world where visitors can whale-watch year-round. The Monterey Submarine Canyon (think, the ocean’s equivalent of the Grand Canyon) is a perfect habitat for a plethora of different whale species that come close to shore to feed. When you’re not searching for whales (which you’re almost guaranteed to see more than one) enjoy the fresh saltwater air and a relaxing boat ride with your hubby.

When to go: Anytime!
Like most coastal towns, Monterey is blessed with a temperate climate. Temperatures hover around 55-60 degrees in the cooler months while summers are usually mild, with temperatures in the mid to upper 70s. Just remember that there’s a greater chance of rain from November to April.
