Red, White & Boom!

We hold this truth to be self-evident -- that fireworks and the Fourth of July are as American and inseparable as ice cream and warm apple pie. With a Family Fun Fest involving plenty of games for the kids, this promises to be one of the most entertaining days of the summer. See page 36 for details. July 4, Charlotte Memorial Stadium

Celebrate America!

The Charlotte Symphony has been entertaining rapt audiences at SouthPark's Symphony Park all summer with their versions of country music, dance music, and Italian masterpieces. Now the series draws to a close with the final concert, Celebrate America!, a patriotic tribute featuring works like "America the Beautiful" and the "Liberty Bell March." See page 32 for details. July 3, Symphony Park at SouthPark

Dorothea Benton FrankAn Evening with Dorothea Benton Frank

In 2000, first-time author Dottie Frank published Sullivan's Island, a story set in her childhood home in lowcountry South Carolina. Nearly ten years later, the New York Times best-selling writer is promoting her eleventh novel, Return to Sullivans Island, taking readers back to the island. A ticket to the event includes a copy of the new novel and the chance to have it autographed. See page 36 for details. July 8, McColl Theatre at ImaginOn

Vans Warped TourVans Warped Tour

Although it's the fifteenth year that the Vans Warped Tour has been bringing punk and indie rock groups to cities all over the country, don't think for a second that it's just the same old, same old. Popular acts like 3Oh!3 and Less Than Jake will be playing, as will brand new bands. See page 32 for details. July 23, Verizon Wireless Amphitheatre

Mamma Mia!

Never has the disputed parentage of a young girl caused so many people to break out in song. Since the film version hit the silver screen last summer, this ABBA-inspired musical has enjoyed another bout of popularity. The songs of the long-gone but not forgotten Swedish band provide the framework for this story, whose protagonist is faced with three ex-lovers on the eve of her daughter's wedding. See page 34 for details. July 28-August 2, Belk Theater
