Little Sugar Creek Greenway

The LYNX has uptown traversing covered, but this collection of short greenways is the start of a major path for Charlotte's on-foot commuters. Developers with Mecklenburg Park and Rec hope that summer 2011 will see the completion of the entire Little Sugar Creek Greenway, a city walking and biking path that will run from just north of uptown at Cordelia Park all the way to the South Carolina border. The greenway will stretch fifteen miles and connect CPCC, Park Road Shopping Center, Carolinas Medical Center, and more than twenty different Charlotte neighborhoods. Right now, you can access 3.6 miles of open greenway, including a section in Huntingtowne Farms Park, a 2.2- mile stretch between Morehead Street and Brandywine Road, and a path between Cordelia Park and Alexander Park. The county's Stream Restoration Project, too, is working to turn the long-neglected waterway into a safe, clean destination for native plants and animals — not to mention joggers.
