Myth Busters

A Plaza Midwood firm debunks myths about the Maya calendar

A Charlotte firm designed a website to teach students about Maya culture, including the feathered serpent.

WHEN THE WORLD failed to end on December 21, one Plaza Midwood firm was particularly unimpressed. Interactive Knowledge designed Living Maya Time, a website that uses scholarly research and video interviews with modern Maya people to combat the myths about an apocalyptic 2012.

Commissioned by the National Museum of the American Indian in Washington, D.C., the site is one of several projects Interactive Knowledge has produced for the Smithsonian over the last decade. In late March, an exhibition at the National Air and Space Museum will feature computer programs designed by the firm that simulate the experience of navigating historic plane flights and sending a satellite to Mercury.
