Nix Burger & Brew
It may offer veggie burgers and a few salads, but the new uptown restaurant Nix Burger & Brew is not a place for someone without a serious penchant for meat. With close to twenty different half-pound burgers, there is no doubt that this small restaurant, recently opened by Nick LaVecchia of LaVecchia's Seafood Grille, celebrates chowing down on beef -- so much so that you get your photo on a bulletin board if you double the beef order on any of the burger options. And diners can do that with burgers ranging from a $7.95 basic Prime Beef Burger to a $14.95 Ultimate Kobe Burger with bacon, blue cheese, caramelized onions, and wild mushrooms.
The space features a fusion of biker décor and sleek modern design -- including parts of kegs hanging from the ceiling and images of flames throughout. Order a burger and cozy up to the bar or find a seat along the long booth lining the wall to watch the game on one of the restaurant's six plasma screens. However, while the burgers are flavorful and creative (the Charlotte Late Night Burger includes a surprisingly tasty mix of fried egg, bacon, chili, and pimento cheese), it's the Fries to Share that steal the show. The Disco Fries include a heap of melted cheese, crisp bacon, and rich gravy. They're just as indulgent and just as good as they sound.
