Park It
If you've ever looked for a parking space on a Friday afternoon at CLT, you also know there aren't many…anywhere. Here's a quick guide to snagging a parking spot without engaging in any road rage*
Hourly Parking
Who it's best for: Should only be used for picking up or dropping off passengers; it's not for travelers.
It'll cost you: Nada, at least for the first thirty minutes. It's $1 per thirty minutes after that; the maximum daily rate is $16.
Daily Parking
Who it's best for: Those passengers leaving their cars at the airport for twenty-four hours or more. It's within walking distance of the terminal, and shuttle service is provided.
It'll cost you: Might as well be nothing: $1 per hour with a maximum daily rate of $6.
Curbside Valet
Who it's best for: Passengers in a hurry, who may have small children, have restrictions walking, or who just want the convenience of leaving their S550 at the front door of the terminal.
It'll cost you: $4 for the first thirty minutes; $1 each additional hour; maximum daily rate of $19.
Business Valet
Who it's best for: Travelers coming from uptown, because it's easy access from Wilkinson Boulevard. It's guaranteed parking, the shuttle gets you to the terminal in less than five minutes, and your car is delivered to you when you return. Reservations are available and can make the process even quicker.
It'll cost you: $4 for the first thirty minutes; $1 each additional thirty minutes; $10 for the first twenty-four hours.
Overflow
Who it's best for: This lot opens only when all the other lots are full, such as during the holidays, which also means you're screwed…sort of. Located farthest from the airport, it'll take some time (about thirty minutes) to get out there during peak hours (i.e., Fridays, Sundays, Monday mornings, and holidays) via shuttle.
It'll cost you: One-time rate of $10.
Cell Phone Lot
Who it's best for: Passengers expecting a quick and timely pickup. The driver waits in his vehicle and the passenger calls him on his cell phone when he's ready to be picked up from the baggage claim area.
It'll cost you: Nothing.
Long-term/Remote Parking
Who it's best for: Travelers parking for forty-eight hours or longer. Shuttle service is provided.
It'll cost you: $4 per twenty-four hours.
