Real Wedding: Emily and Sean at the Mint Museum Uptown
Top: Emily, a counselor, and Sean, a business analyst for Continental Tire, grew up five minutes apart in Charlotte, went to nearby schools, lived on the same block, ran on the same streets, and drove to work the same way. Thank God, eHarmony finally intervened. “Sean’s a really genuine person. Being a counselor, I liked that he has no pretense,” Emily said. They met at Diamond Restaurant, and when he went to shake her hand, she offered a hug; he liked her warmth. After a six-hour first date, Emily called her mom and said, “I’m pretty sure I just met my husband.” Bottom: Emily found her lace Modern Trousseau dress at Hayden Olivia, with a sexy keyhole back and romantic sash to compliment her willowy 6’1” frame, adding a billowing cathedral length veil. Sean and groomsmen wore classic black Vera Wang tuxedos.

Wedding photographers Geoff and Cheyenne Schultz give the award for best first look to Emily Powell and Sean Bass; it was so filled with emotion. “I know they took pictures, but I only remember Sean being there,” recalls Emily. She was so excited, Sean said he could feel her heart beating through his chest. The bride worked with Pastor Ron Jackson, her mentor, to write the ceremony and vows, including communion, and an acoustic guitar playing “Only Hope” as her brother and mom walked her down the aisle.
On the terrace, guests enjoyed prosecco, jumbo shrimp, and baked brie with jam by Best Impressions, while watching the Pride parade on Tryon. To offset the stark, crisp lines of the Mint, the Blossom Shop created fluffy displays of white hydrangea and pink roses, while Party Reflections added vintage elegance with white rosette tablecloth, beaded chargers, gold chairs, and soft pink lighting. After a dinner of feta stuffed chicken, filet mignon and potatoes with asparagus, the bride and groom took to the floor as the Motown band, Mo Money, played “Forever Love” by Francesca Battistelli. “I loved our first dance,” said Emily. “We were in our own element. I don’t really remember anyone else being in the room.”

Having been in 10 weddings, Emily let her bridesmaids choose their favorite styles from J. Crew in Kelly green, with bunch bouquets in ivory and blush roses from The Blossom Shop.
Got What it Cakes created an ivory vanilla and almond cake with lace details from Emily’s dress and monogrammed with a B.
Soft and romantic reception colors in champagne and blush with lots of ivory juxtaposed with the modern lines and hues of the Mint.
The glass curtain wall of the Mint Uptown made for a sun drenched ceremony.
