Real Weddings: Nicole & Hashim
December 8, 2012: Grand Bohemian Hotel, Asheville, N.C.
W hen a couple secretly elopes in March but waits until April Fools’ Day to reveal their secret—and no one believes they are really married—the only solution is a second “real” wedding. Hashim Daniels, senior project manager for Bank of America, and Nicole Watford, in wine sales and marketing, chose the retro-glamorous Grand Bohemian Hotel in Asheville.
With Old Hollywood style, draped satin, and a tiny sash to accentuate her waist, the bride stunned in a Maggie Sottero gown from Maya Couture. Fashionisto Hashim stepped it up with a gray Jos. A. Bank suit and custom bow tie by Randy Hanauer, with blue socks and shoelaces to match Nicole’s Marco Santi heels. Nicole carried a Studio Flora Diva bouquet of peach and white garden roses, pink peonies, and white calla lilies, with a locket portrait of her father, so that both parents could walk her down the aisle. Their pastor, Ron Dozier, delivered a poignant homily on commitment, before Hashim and Nicole’s wine box ceremony, sealing wine and love letters in a box for their fifth anniversary.
The sumptuous brunch reception offered shrimp and grits, prime rib, ahi tuna, homemade waffles and omelets, and delicious vegetarian flatbreads for Hashim’s parents. Now “officially” wed, Nicole surprised Hashim with a serenade, “Love on Top” by Beyoncé, with her maid of honor and two sisters-in-law as backup dancers. Flashmob-style, both families jumped up for a choreographed number they’d been practicing via Skype for months, to R. Kelly’s “Share My Love.”
