Refresh Records Compilation Benefits Southern Poverty Law Center

Refresh Records
Junior Astronomers is one of the bands contributing to Refresh Records' new benefit compilation.

ON FRIDAY, Charlotte label Refresh Records releases a compilation to benefit Southern Poverty Law Center. With Love: A Benefit for the SPLC features previously unreleased tracks from Junior Astronomers, Dollhands, Cuzco, Hungry Girl, and others. All of the bands are from North Carolina and South Carolina. Aside from donating all profits to SPLC, Refresh will also match the first $500 raised. (Refresh Records was a 2017 Best of the Best Award winner.)

“I started reaching out to bands about this compilation following the events in Charlottesville,” Refresh founder Josh Higgins tells us. “Refresh turned two the following week ,and I found it hard to celebrate in light of what was happening. It seems that hatred is no longer a fringe element in our nation and I wanted to put things on hold with the label to focus energy on helping out. The response by local artists has been overwhelming and I'm really excited that so many talented bands from both Carolinas joined us for this release. ‘With Love’ is a shared community message of love, equality, and resistance. We decided to raise money for the Southern Poverty Law Center due to their efforts in monitoring hate groups, as well as their efforts in promoting tolerance and equality in our nation's schools.”

Dollhands also appears another benefit compilation: Won't Back Down: A Puerto Rico Benefit Compilation, released through Feels Alright Tapes. The record compiles covers of Tom Petty tunes from local bands, and you can check that out here
