Savory Bites

Savor Cafe and Catering offers more than ten different sandwiches including this seared salmon BLT on warm focaccia bread.

Savor Café and Catering quietly opened its doors on West Morehead Street last summer. However, the small café quickly drew lots of attention with its creative menu, offering simple salad, sandwich, and burger options with a Southern twist. Sunlight streams into the café, located in a small brick building just west of the I-77 overpass. The cozy interior features wooden rafters, creamy yellow walls, and a chalkboard announcing the day’s specials. Johnson & Wales-trained owner Lisa Burris and co-owner Lori Pearson have created a warm, casual spot that feels like you’re having lunch at your best friend’s house — if your best friend happened to make a rich pimento cheese dip appetizer ($4.25) or a BLT with seared and cracked-pepper salmon on fresh and fluffy focaccia ($9.50). In a hurry on your lunch hour? Savor also offers takeout; just be prepared to be enticed by the café’s desserts when you’re picking up your sandwiches. Pearson creates new desserts daily, and temptations like sweet cupcakes and pecan pie bars are irresistible in their spot near the door.
