Setting the Barre

Popularized by celebrities like Kelly Ripa, the barre method was created in 2001 and has since become a fitness craze.

Sure, the new Pure Barre studio in Myers Park isn’t the only place in town where you can get toned and tightened using the traditional ballet barre. After all, the barre method has been sweeping the country thanks to a hefty push from Hollywood celebs like Kelly Ripa, who swear by similar workouts. However, the fifty-five-minute classes taught in this studio are unique in their constantly alternating use of strength and stretching exercises to create what owner Bratschi Johnston calls "long and lean muscles." These classes are intense—manager Casie Scott promises results in ten classes. The Charlotte Pure Barre is the twenty-first studio to open since the method was created in 2001. There you’ll find a spacious studio with mirrored walls and hardwood floors and classes of twenty-five or less with prices ranging from $23 per class to $225 for a month unlimited. 603 Providence Rd., 980-329-4640, purebarre.com
