A new exhibit titled "Of Days Gone By" opened at Lark & Key Gallery and Boutique in South End this past weekend. Each piece was selected to evoke feelings of nostalgia and wonder. Artists include painter and mixed-media artist Kendra Baird, Janet Eskridge, Elizabeth Foster, and gallery co-owner Duy Huynh. The exhibit continues until September 27.
The Summer Nights series continues at Daniel Stowe Botanical Garden on Thursday evenings for the rest of the month. The event takes place from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. and is designed to take advantage of cooler hours. An art walk takes place at 7 p.m., and a tasting event explores wines from South Africa. Other upcoming events at Daniel Stowe include a Photographing Hummingbirds class on August 9 and a Growing Fruit at Home class on August 21.
IKEA celebrates its Swedish heritage with a Crayfish Party on August 15. The Charlotte store, located just off of University City Boulevard, invites customers to the store to dine in the restuarnt and enjoy a feast, including dishes such as crayfish, cheese pie, cucumber salad, and fruit crumble. The crayfish party is a Swedish tradition that dates back to the 1800s. It honors the traditional crayfish fishing season in August and September.
Charlotte Mecklenburg Library will hold an event called I Can Discover Wing Haven Gardens and Bird Sanctuary on August 13. Located in the heart of Myers Park, Wing Haven is often considered a secret sanctuary. The library event invites attendees to learn more about this local spot from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.

Davis will teach a class on Pickling Your Garden Harvest on Friday, August 15 as part of the Extension's Sustainable Living Series. Everyone who attends the class will receive hands-on experience in canning bread-and-butter pickles. These classes often fill up, so register here.
The Bechtler Museum of Modern Art will screen Sagrada: The Mystery of Creation as part of its Modernism + Film Series. The film chronicles the 132-year process of building Barcelona's La Sagrada Familia basilica, which remains under construction. A prescreening reception, with a cash bar and appetizers, starts at 6 p.m. A presentation by Greg Snyder, associate professor of architecture at UNC-Charlotte, will follow the film.
Local designer Lisa Sherry will hold her Luxe Life Camp again September 12-14. The getaway takes place at Skyland Retreat in the mountains of Clyde.
