This Weekend in Charlotte: Bachtoberfest, GUTS CLT, Halloween at the Haven

FRIDAY
GUTS CLT
GUTS invites the community’s creative types out to carve pumpkins for a cause, benefitting the Make-A-Wish Foundation. This year’s competition takes place at N.C. Music Factory.

CHARLOTTE SYMPHONY KNIGHTSOUNDS: BACHTOBERFEST II : BACH & BEER
The popular marriage of local beer and German classic now has a sequel. Christopher-Warren Green again conducts this special event, and performances are offered for both the afternoon and evening crowds.

TO KILL A MOCKINGBIRD
Theatre Charlotte stages the classic story from Harper Lee. Take a trip back to Alabama in the Great Depression, where Jem and Scout Finch observe their father in his defense of Tom Robinson, a framed African-American man.

BUZZ FEST
This indoor festival, running for two days, celebrates the Charlotte Hornets. Nelly hosts, with music from Diggy, Big & Rich, and more. Food and games are also included, with a $10 admission price.

SATURDAY
VANYA AND SONIA MASHA AND SPIKE
Christopher Durang wrote this Tony-winning play. A Pennsylvania family’s trials are documented with humor and sincerity.

HALLOWEEN AT THE HAVEN
Games, ghost stories, and more are held at the Wing Haven Gardens and Bird Sanctuary. A scavenger hunt makes use of the garden’s paths.

GREAT PUMPKIN FEST
Planet Snoopy in Carowinds is transformed to reflect a fall Peanuts celebration. Costumes are encouraged.

SUNDAY
NABUCCO
Opera Carolina returns with Giuseppe Verdi’s Nabucco. The historical opera is based on the biblical books of Jeremiah and Daniel and  focuses on the titular king of Babylon.

LOS LOBOS
This Los Lobos tour celebrates a 40th anniversary, and this show celebrates the record La Pistola y El Corazon. The California group is sticking to acoustics with this date.
