This Weekend in Charlotte: Mary Chapin Carpenter, Fleetwood Mac, Actor's Theatre, & Garrison Keillor

FRIDAY
JAZZ AT THE BECHTLER: CHARLIE PARKER: A TRIBUTE TO BIRD
The Ziad Jazz Quartet returns with another tribute, with this performance honoring Charlie “Yardbird” Parker. Selections include bebop staples “Parker’s Mood,” “Yardbird Suite,” and “Donna Lee.”
STICK FLY
Actor’s Theatre of Charlotte offers a family tale as brothers bring girlfriends home to meet their family at Martha’s Vineyard. Themes of class and race are explored as the excursion gets complicated.
SATURDAY
CHARLOTTE SYMPHONY POPS: MARY CHAPIN CARPENTER
The Americana singer-songwriter is known best for the 1992 record Come On Come On. Seven tracks from the album blew up the country charts, and it started a streak of four Grammy awards for Best Female Country Vocal Performance. In this show, she’s backed by our very own Charlotte Symphony.
FLEETWOOD MAC
Mick Fleetwood may be the only original member from the band’s 1967 inception, but this line-up is still considered classic: Lindsey Buckingham, John McVie, Christine McVie, and Stevie Nicks. It’s the line-up for any fan of Tusk or Rumours.
JACKIE & ME
Joey Stoshack, the play’s protagonist, uses his time-traveling powers to visit Jackie Robinson in his prime. (Just go with it.) The 10-year-old gets way more than a great report for his history class out of it.
SUNDAY
AN EVENING WITH GARRISON KEILLOR
Keillor’s voice has soothed public radio listeners for decades, guiding a tour of a fictional town in A Prairie Home Companion. Hear the on-air personality and author talk about his four decades with the program.
