This Weekend's Agenda: Arts, Food, Beer, & Social Events (Feb. 12-14)

Below, there are both familiar ways to celebrate the holiday and fresh ideas, like taking in a musical.

VALENTINE'S DAY WEEKEND has arrived, and Charlotte has stepped up with dozens of ways to mark the holiday. Or don't. Several of the below events can be enjoyed with friends, family, or others if V-Day isn't your thing. Click the section titles to read more from that category. Select the event's title to see its calendar entry, which has all the info you need to attend.

SOCIAL EVENTS

VALENTINE'S DAY BAR CRAWL
With two days left until Valentine’s Day, this may be your best bet to find that special someone before the day arrives. For $12, you’ll get more than just a soulmate, including a free buffet at Whisky River from 7:30 p.m. until 10 p.m., free entry to Suite and two other EpiCentre bars, access to the Nuts and Bolts singles party at Whisky River and the chance to win raffle prizes.

I WOULD CUDDLE YOU SO HARD VALENTINE'S DAY BAR CRAWL
Who knew there were so many Valentine’s Day drinking events? Take your Valentine (or, really, just you) to Fitzgerald’s, 201 E Fifth St., from 6 p.m. until 7:30 p.m. for registration. From there, you’ll go to Connolly's, SIP, Prohibition, TILT, Roxbury and more on your bar crawl o’love. A $17 ticket gets you a great T-shirt, free entrance to all the participating bars, and $3 Corona and Corona Lights at each bar.

BALLANTYNE BALL
The bougie Ballantyners are throwing this ball for the second year in a row, and you’re invited. The cocktail reception begins at 6 p.m. Dress is black-tie-optional, but don’t forget your mask to this masquerade-themed ball. Tickets are $200, and the masquerade fun is at the Ballantyne Hotel, 10000 Ballantyne Commons Parkway. Proceeds benefit The Sandbox, an organization dedicated to enhancing the lives of children in Charlotte who have life-altering illnesses.

BEER

SUGAR CREEK BREWING
In keeping with the romance theme, Sugar Creek Brewing is tapping Pucker Up, a sour saison on Friday (Feb. 12). On its Facebook page, Sugar Creek says to “expect a traditional farmhouse ale that is surprisingly sour, yet ridiculously refreshing.” The brewery will be tapping Pucker Up at 2:14 p.m. (get it? 2/14) on Friday, and it will be a taproom-only release.

TRIPLE C BREWING
One of the more bold and appealing beers that debuted last year is back for its second run. Triple C will be releasing Chocolate Covered Pretzel Stout this Saturday at the taproom beginning at noon. When word of this beer first came out last February, many were intrigued by the idea of the ingredients: German Pilsner, Special B and white and chocolate wheat (creating the pretzel breadiness aspect), and then aged in bourbon barrels and on cacao nibs.

FOOD

VALENTINE'S DAY BRUNCH AT 7TH STREET PUBLIC MARKET
Indulge in a special brunch this weekend at the 7th Street Public Market in Uptown. Enjoy French toast made with Panettone and sip on prosecco or a mimosa with the folks from The Assorted Table Wine Shoppe, Local Loaf, and Zia Pia Imports. While it's technically called brunch, guests are welcome to come and indulge any time during market hours this Saturday and Sunday.

VALENTINE'S DAY AT FLATIRON
Have dinner this weekend with everyone's favorite couple: surf and turf. Chef Bill Schutz of Flatiron Kitchen and Taphouse in Davidson invites guests to enjoy filet mignon and Maine lobster tails, along with a chilled peekytoe crab salad appetizer. To sweeten the occasion: on Sundays at Flatiron, select bottles of wine are just $20. Reservations are recommended.

VALENTINE'S SPECIAL AT PURE PIZZA
Split a large pizza, a bottle of wine, and two doughnuts from Joe's Doughs with your valentine (or a good friend) for just $30 this Saturday at Pure Pizza. If you'd rather stay in, order through their ChowNow app and take this deal to-go. Offer is available at the Plaza Midwood location only.

ARTS

CHARLOTTE SYMPHONY POPS: A SYMPHONIC VALENTINE
Each year, our symphony offers this holiday concert on Friday and Saturday (Feb. 12-13). This one features Eva Noblezada, the Charlotte wunderkind who debuted as Miss Saigon in a 2014 production in London’s West End.

GRAHAM NASH
It’s not every day you get to see an Officer of the Order of the British Empire play the guitar and sing. Watch the legendary singer-songwriter perform songs that span his storied career on Saturday.

MATILDA THE MUSICAL
Why not take in a touring Broadway show for a February date night? The story of Matilda is retold in a musical, highlighted by vibrant sets, energetic songs, and the humor of the original tale throughout the weekend.
