MOTHER'S DAY WEEKEND has arrived. Below, find several outings that could make this one special. Go out for brunch and tea. Take in the symphony or see a stage show. Or hey, just enjoy some beer and barbecue. Or do all of those. This is for Mom, after all.


SOCIAL EVENTS

MOTHER’S DAY SIP & SHOP
Forgot Mom this year? Never fear! The 7th Street Public Market hosts this Mother’s Day pop-up Sip and Shop market today from 3 p.m. until 8 p.m. The market also features 50 free sparkling wine to 50 lucky shoppers at both 5 p.m. and 6 p.m. Aside from the gifts you buy for Ma, the event is free.

BEER BOURBON & BARBECUE FESTIVAL
The name says it all here: you’re getting the summer trifecta. A general admission ticket buys you entrance to the festival with unlimited beer and bourbon sampling in a souvenir glass and access to the live entertainment. Tickets cost $39 in advance or $45 at the door. This 10th anniversary party lasts from 2 p.m. until 6 p.m. at Symphony Park.

DERBY DAYS
This annual party brings together more than 400 of Charlotte’s young professionals to enjoy a day of live music, lawn games, free beer and wine, food trucks, raffles and, oh yeah, the Kentucky Derby on TV. It’s a Kentucky Derby party, so bring your big hats and seersucker suits and be ready to down a few mint juleps. The party happens at Mint Museum Randolph.


FOOD + DRINK

MOTHER'S DAY TEA & BRUNCH AT THE BALLANTYNE
Treat mom to a Mother’s Day tea from now until this Saturday at The Ballantyne.  Enjoy tea sandwiches and sweets with your tea, and add a Champagne Rosebud or Pink Lady Cocktail for an additional charge. If mom prefers brunch with the family, join The Ballantyne on Sunday for brunch and live entertainment. Moms receive a complimentary glass of champagne or mimosa. Brunch is complimentary for children ages 4 and under. Reservations are required for both events.

MOTHER'S DAY AT DRESSLER'S

Both locations will be offer a special menu on Sunday for lunch and dinner. Guests can enjoy three courses, trying dishes like Thai calamari with peanut sauce and wasabi to pan-roasted crabcakes with a pecan remoulade. An assortment of desserts round out the menu, including (of course) Mom's cheesecake, apple pie, and carrot cake. Kids eat for just $10.

MOTHER'S DAY BRUNCH AT HEIRLOOM

Chef Clark Barlowe and team are pulling together a special brunch menu this Sunday to celebrate mom, one that is sure to highlight the best that spring has to offer. Plus, there will be a build your own mimosa bar. Call to reserve.


ARTS + CULTURE

THE BRIDGES OF MADISON COUNTY
The novel-turned-movie-turned-Broadway-musical comes to Charlotte's Knight Theater. The story, set in Madison County, Iowa, follows an affair between a married woman and a National Geographic photographer.

DANCING THROUGH LATIN AMERICA
The 14th-annual event by Carolina Latin Dance Company includes dances and costumes from 10 Latin American countries during two acts at McGlohon Theater.

CHARLOTTE SYMPHONY POPS: BERNADETTE PETERS
Inspired by Peters' career, this Symphony show at Belk Theater has pop hits and Broadway tunes. During her career, Peters won two Tony Awards, three Drama Desk Awards, and four Grammys (as part of Broadway casts).


BEER

N.C. BREWERS AND MUSIC FESTIVAL
This weekend marks the sixth annual North Carolina Brewers and Music Festival at Rural Hill in Huntersville. The event features more than 40 breweries along with a full day and night of music, and here’s the best part – you can camp out overnight on site.

UNKNOWN RELEASE
Unknown is set to release its latest beer – right meow. Kitten Snuggles, an unfiltered farmhouse ale, will be available at the taproom in 22-ounce bombers and on draft this Saturday at noon. Unknown owner and head brewer Brad Shell has never been one to shy away from unique ingredients in his beer, and this one features catnip flowers, along with milk sugar and fuzzy apricots for what the brewery is calling a “purr-fect pairing.”
