Hot air balloons launch in the morning and late afternoon at the annual Carolina BalloonFest in Statesville.

The “world’s largest flying pig,” a scarecrow, and a “rocket man” balloon are among the more than 50 hot air balloons scheduled to participate in the 41st annual Carolina BalloonFest at the Statesville Regional Airport October 17 through 19. Those who don’t feel like flying can check out the 5K race, wine and craft beer, kids zone, arts and crafts, and bands such as Overmountain Men. Proceeds benefit Relay for Life of Statesville, along with other local nonprofits. Hot air balloon rides cost about $225 per person and should be booked with the pilots listed on the festival website. Tickets $5-$15.
