Weekend Ahead: July 24-26
ROCK ON
The Rock and Rebels tour is back with Kid Rock and Lynyrd Skynyrd hitting the Verizon Wireless Amphitheatre this Sunday night. Ticket prices range from $19 to $69. Of course, the high on Sunday is 90 degrees so don your coolest rock n’ roll attire and bring some money for an ice cold drink. You’ll need it. livenation.com
SIDEWALK SHOP
We always love a sale. We especially love a sale where items are up to 85% off. And if that sale happens to include not one store, but ten? Well, we call that unmissable. This Friday and Saturday such a sale is going on at Morrison in SouthPark. Asana Activewear, BD Jeffries, Black & Blue, ChezElle, E Martini, Hotham, Scout & Molly’s, Stickley Furniture, Swoozies, and Varji & Varji are all participating in this sidewalk sale to end all sidewalk sales. liveatmorrison.com
SHOP HOP
This Saturday, park your car in Plaza Midwood and start shop hopping. The stores in this hip neighborhood, such as Pura Vida, Century Vintage, Clark’s Antiques, House of Africa, and Bead Lush, will be open late and many will be providing free entertainment during your shopping. Plus, if all that wasn’t enough to get you out, the event will be raising money for Crisis Assistance Ministry.
PET POOCHES
Ok, I’m a sucker for anything dog related. Seriously. Anything. And, if you throw in some cute/cheesy play on words, then I’m definitely a goner. Such was the case when I heard about Woofstock ’09. Held this Saturday at the Historic Palmer Building at 2601 East 7th Street, this event is sponsored by Great Dane Friends of Ruff Love (two plays on words!). There will be available dogs for rescue on site as well as vendors, food, drink, and entertainment. And bring your own pooch because after the event, the party is at Dog Bar where from 4-7 a portion of beer sales benefit Great Dane Friends of Ruff Love. greatdanefriends.com
VIEW
It may seem kind of strange for an exhibit on quilts to be launching on a July day where the high is predicted to be 91 degrees, but on the other hand, perusing American Quilt Classics: 1800-1980 at The Mint Museum of Craft + Design this Saturday is a great excuse to get out of the heat. The exhibit will display 36 historically significant and beautiful American made quilts. mintmuseum.org
